Overview

The Master of Applied Cybersecurity (MACSec) is a one-year graduate degree offered by UNB Fredericton's Faculty of Computer Science in partnership with the Canadian Institute for Cybersecurity. The curriculum covers core cybersecurity domains including data communications and network modelling, cryptanalysis, information assurance, privacy, network security, software security, and digital forensics. The program runs over three semesters: fall and winter terms each require eight courses covering foundational and specialized topics, and the summer term includes a digital forensics course along with a six-credit capstone project. Students may also choose one elective, including options in business or technical management. Instruction is delivered in person at UNB's Fredericton campus. The program is aimed at students entering the cybersecurity field, addressing a well-documented shortage of trained cybersecurity professionals. Prospective students can direct inquiries to the Canadian Institute for Cybersecurity or the Faculty of Computer Science's graduate studies office.
