Overview
The Master of Cybersecurity in SFU's Faculty of Applied Sciences teaches students to secure systems and data through applied learning combined with paid co-op placements. Students move through the program as a cohort, taught by a mix of SFU researchers and practising security professionals, and the curriculum pairs theory with hands-on technical work aligned to industry need; dedicated career support then helps graduates into their next role. The program is designed for completion in roughly 16 to 20 months. It is open to recent graduates, experienced professionals looking to transition into technology, and those aiming to advance within a current technical role.

Admission Requirements: Simon Fraser University's Master of Cybersecurity requires a bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field, with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.00/4.33 (B), or 3.33/4.33 on the last 60 credits, for domestic applicants; international applicants must meet SFU's published country-specific equivalent qualifications. Applicants must be able to program in Java, Python and C++, and have a foundation in advanced calculus, linear algebra, statistics, data structures, algorithms, databases and operating systems. Non-native English speakers must meet SFU's general English proficiency requirement under Graduate Regulation 1.3.3, though this page does not itself publish a test score; applicants from English-speaking countries who completed an English-taught degree are exempt. Conditional admission is offered only in exceptional circumstances, and strong professional experience must be documented. Applications for the upcoming intake opened on 1 October 2026.

Spring 2027 entry runs 1 July to 15 September 2026, and Summer 2027 entry runs 1 December 2026 to 15 January 2027. Admission documents are generally due 28 February 2027 (Fall) and offers must be accepted by 1 May. International applicants use the same EducationPlannerBC dates and portal; SFU publishes no separate international deadline. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
