Overview

The Gender Studies Master of Arts brings together faculty from disciplines such as English, History, Anthropology, and Global and International Studies around the analysis of gender as a category of inquiry. Students can pursue a thesis route, defended orally after five courses and a 9-credit-hour thesis, or a coursework-only route built around seven courses and a major research paper of 30 to 40 pages. All students take Contemporary Feminist Theories, and those focused on social-science research also complete Advanced Feminist Methods. The program's interdisciplinary design lets students draw electives from related graduate programs including International Studies and First Nations Studies, and it admits students for both September and January semesters.
