The Honours Bachelor of Science in Nursing is a four-year, 120-unit program offered in both English and French. It prepares generalist nurses able to work across health-care settings, with an emphasis on effective communication, critical thinking and analytical skills, and a commitment to lifelong learning. Compulsory first-year courses cover human anatomy and physiology, microbiology and immunology, communication and digital health in nursing, health assessment, and diverse populations and health, building toward clinical and community nursing courses in later years. The program is offered on a full-time basis, and the passing grade for all nursing (NSG) courses is C+. Transfer students from another nursing program are not eligible for admission. A French or English immersion stream is available. Graduates may pursue further study at the graduate level, including the MSc, MSc-NP and PhD in nursing sciences at the University of Ottawa.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Applicants need English 4U (ENG4U) or Français 4U (FRA4U), Biology 4U (SBI4U), Chemistry 4U (SCH4U), and one of Functions 3M (MCF3M), Functions 3U (MCR3U), or a Mathematics 4U course. A minimum grade of 65% is required in each individual prerequisite course, separate from the overall admission average. The published minimum admission average is 90%, the highest among Health Sciences programs, reflecting very high demand and limited enrolment. Because of the mandatory course sequencing in the curriculum, direct entry into second year is not permitted under any circumstance, including for applicants who could otherwise be granted transfer credit, and students transferring from another nursing program (including college bachelor's programs) are not eligible for admission. This line covers both the standard program and its Second Entry Program variant.
