The Master of Arts in Anthropology examines how local and global issues are interconnected, using ethnography as its primary research method to study contemporary questions in medicine, the environment, minority communities, media and indigeneity. The program is available full-time or part-time, in English or French, and offers three completion routes: a thesis option, a research paper option, or a coursework-only option, giving students flexibility to pursue either a research-intensive or a more applied path. Eligible students may also request to add a co-op work-term component to their program. Admission is open to holders of an honours BA (or equivalent) with a major or specialization in anthropology, or in another discipline with a minimum average of 70% (B); students from other disciplines with an insufficient anthropology background may be required to complete a qualifying program of up to eight courses before beginning the MA. All applicants must be able to understand, speak and write proficiently in either English or French.
