The Master of Science in Geography examines the interrelationships between human society and the physical world, drawing on human geography, physical geography, environmental studies and geomatics. Departmental research strengths include polar environments, urban geography, climate change, and GIS and remote sensing. The department offers a thesis-based, two-year MSc as its core program, alongside a one-year course-based concentration in the Anthropocene and collaborative options through the university's Science, Society and Policy program. Applicants without an undergraduate background in geography may be admitted for a qualifying period, during which they complete selected courses from the department's honours BA program, and the admissions committee may require additional courses, including language courses, depending on an applicant's background. The thesis for the core MSc route must be submitted within four years of initial enrolment.
