Overview

This Bachelor of Health Studies is jointly administered by the Faculty of Kinesiology and Health Studies and the Faculty of Arts, in partnership with First Nations University of Canada, and is completed over four years; one-year Certificate and two-year Diploma options are also offered within the same program. Coursework examines the social, psychological, Indigenous, and biological determinants of health and wellbeing, teaching students to understand and evaluate health-related theory, research, and policy through courses such as Understanding Health and Illness, Health in Canada, and Traditional Indigenous Health Concepts. An optional concentration in Indigenous Health and Well-Being adds further courses through First Nations University of Canada. A 15-week fieldwork placement lets students apply classroom learning in a working health environment, and courses also offer community service-learning or volunteering opportunities. The program is designed with attention to Indigenous health needs as a foundation for addressing health inequities.
