Overview
This program leads to teacher certification for secondary schools, offered through the Faculty of Education as a four-year Bachelor of Education or a two-year Bachelor of Education After Degree for those with an approved prior degree; combined degrees are also offered with Kinesiology, Mathematics, and Music. Students complete a major and a minor teaching area, chosen from ten majors including Biology, Chemistry, English, General Science, Health, Mathematics, Music, Physical Education, Physics, and Social Studies, and eighteen minors, to meet Saskatchewan Professional Teachers Regulatory Board certification requirements. Field placements run throughout the program, with a pre-internship year in year three that coordinates education coursework with practicum, followed by an intensive sixteen-week internship in year four under a cooperating teacher's daily supervision. Admission Requirements: The secondary teacher education page has no admission list of its own and links to the general application guide; the specifics below are the Faculty of Education's Saskatchewan high-school pathway. Grade 12 students can be admitted early-conditionally with a 65% average across four approved 20/30-level courses (English, two further approved math/science/social-science/language courses, and one additional approved course, which for Education may also be a fine-art course). Final admission needs Saskatchewan Secondary standing with English Language Arts 30, two further approved 30-level courses and one additional approved 30-level course, to a 65% average; all Education programs are competitive entry, and a Secondary Education major or minor in Math requires Pre-Calculus 30, in Physics requires Pre-Calculus 30 and Physics 30, and in Chemistry requires Pre-Calculus 30, Chemistry 30 and Physics 30.
