The Master of Indigenous Language Education at the University of Regina prepares fluent speakers of Indigenous languages to become leaders in Indigenous language education, responding to increasing demand for Indigenous language learning in schools and communities. The program addresses community-based programming, Indigenous epistemology, Indigenous research methodologies, the integration of Indigenous knowledge into curriculum, and support for Indigenous learners. Students choose among three pathways: a thesis-based option emphasizing independent, original research; a project-based option applying theory to practice with a narrower research scope; and a course-based option of ten courses completed with a capstone synthesis paper. Blended and fully online course options are increasingly available, accommodating students working in their communities. Applicants require a bachelor's degree applicable to the program, normally a Bachelor of Education or equivalent, with a minimum grade point average of 70 per cent; at least two years of teaching or other relevant professional experience is preferred but not required.
