Program details
Overview
Veterinary Biomedical Sciences at the University of Saskatchewan's Western College of Veterinary Medicine is a thesis-based Master of Science program, normally completed over two years, situated within a research environment spanning whole-animal physiology through to molecular and cellular biology. Research areas connected to the program include cardiovascular physiology, gastrointestinal biochemistry, toxicology, neuroscience, reproductive physiology and biotechnology, studied across species such as livestock, wildlife and laboratory animals. The program is delivered in person at the Saskatoon campus and is built around a low faculty-to-student ratio intended to support close mentorship of each student's research. Applicants are encouraged to secure the agreement of a supervisor before applying, and to hold a four-year honours degree or equivalent with a strong academic average. The program suits students who want hands-on laboratory or field-based research training within veterinary and biomedical science, whether as a step toward a research career, further doctoral study, teaching, or professional roles in animal and biomedical research, and offers year-round application rather than a fixed intake deadline.
