Program details

Overview

The certificate provides hands-on training in flower arranging, covering the fundamentals of working with fresh, treated and dried floral products as well as more advanced techniques used in the floral industry. It is intended to prepare students for employment in the floral trade or for starting a floral business of their own.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: UFV's Floral Design certificate program page states its own entrance conditions rather than pointing to the Academic Calendar: applicants must be 19 or older, or have completed high school. English proficiency is not set as a formal test requirement; the page only recommends Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) Level 6, well short of a mandated IELTS, TOEFL, or PTE score. No mathematics, science, minimum GPA, portfolio, interview, prior floristry experience, or criminal-record requirement is described on the page. Registration for the Fall 2026 offering closes August 19, 2026, though UFV Continuing Education says late registrations may still be considered on request. The certificate runs as a single annual intake each September.

Application Details

Start Date: September
Application Deadline: Domestic applicants apply directly to UFV: applications for Fall (September) 2027 entry open 1 October 2026, for Winter (January) 2027 entry opened 1 May 2026, and for Summer (May) 2027 entry open 1 October 2026; UFV publishes no closing date for any of these and instead admits many programmes strictly in application-date order once every required document has arrived, so applying soon after opening matters more than any deadline. Grade 12 students may apply from 1 October of their graduating year and must send final transcripts by 3 August. International applicants use UFV International's own windows - 1 October to 31 May for Fall, 1 May to 31 October for Winter and 1 October to 1 March for Summer - and are likewise assessed on a rolling, first-arrived basis until each programme fills. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
