Overview
The Department of Classics offers a PhD program with what it describes as one of the largest graduate faculties in North America, providing training across three areas of specialization: Ancient History and Material Culture, Ancient Philosophy, and Greek and Roman Literature and Culture. Students draw on the University of Toronto's Robarts Research Library, whose classics holdings the department describes as unrivalled in Canada. Standard entry follows completion of a master's degree in classics with sufficient training in the chosen field; University of Toronto MA graduates require grades of at least B+ in graded coursework and at least A- on the Graduate Research Paper. Direct entry from a bachelor's degree requires at least an A- average in the final year.
