The Ph.D. individualise is a 90-credit, full-time interdisciplinary doctorate at Universite de Montreal for research projects that do not fit within an existing departmental doctoral program. Each student's coursework and research direction are guided by a personalized committee of three faculty members drawn from the relevant fields. The diploma is awarded as "Doctorat individualise en," followed by the student's chosen interdisciplinary or multidisciplinary area of study. The program suits candidates pursuing original research spanning several disciplines, such as architecture combined with another field of expertise, where no single existing doctoral program offers the needed supervision or coursework. Admission is centred on the strength and feasibility of the proposed research project and the availability of a supervisor able to direct it. New students are admitted once a year, in the fall term.
