Hons in Earth and Environmental Systems (HBSc)

Earth and Environmental Systems is a Major program within the Honours Bachelor of Science at the University of Toronto's Faculty of Arts & Science, delivered at the St. George campus. The program takes a multidisciplinary approach to large-scale interactions between the Earth and planetary systems across time-scales from millions to billions of years to present-day and future processes, integrating the solid Earth, biosphere, atmosphere and hydrosphere. Core themes include biogeochemistry, paleoclimatology, global environmental change, Quaternary science and Earth surface processes, taught through coursework spanning geology, biology, physical processes and field and laboratory methods. The program requires 8.0 credits, including at least 2.0 credits at the 300+ level and 0.5 credit at the 400-level. Enrolment is open: students may join after completing 4.0 credits, with no minimum grade required. Students may add an Arts & Science Internship Program (ASIP) work-integrated learning stream, typically entered in Fall of Year 2. The Major forms part of a four-year Honours Bachelor of Science degree.
