Climate Change Studies is a Minor program offered by the School of the Environment in the University of Toronto's Faculty of Arts & Science, at the St. George campus. It is designed to be paired with a Major or Specialist elsewhere in the Faculty, most often a program in Environmental Science, Environmental Studies or another discipline, giving students an interdisciplinary grounding in climate change alongside their primary field. Coursework totals 4.0 credits: 2.0 required courses, 1.5 credits of electives at the 300+ level, and a 0.5-credit capstone. Students choose one of three areas of emphasis — ethics, thought, communication and culture; civil society, policy and politics; or economics, resources and science — and draw electives from across the sciences, social sciences and humanities. The program suits students planning to work directly in sustainability, environmental or climate change fields after graduation, as well as those adding a climate change foundation to another area of study. It contributes to a four-year Honours Bachelor of Arts or Science degree.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Ontario applicants apply through OUAC 101/105 and need the OSSD with six 4U/M subjects including English (ENG4U/EAE4U). Enrolment in the Minor is limited: students who have completed between 4.0 and 8.5 credits need ENV101H1 with a grade of at least 65%; students with 9.0 or more credits need ENV222H1 with at least 65%. This minimum changes each year with demand and does not guarantee a space. Applicants whose first language is not English must meet the university's English proficiency requirement via an accepted test (IELTS, TOEFL iBT, PTE Academic, Duolingo, CAEL or Cambridge C1/C2) unless exempt.
