Classics (Greek and Latin) is an Honours Bachelor of Arts Major program offered through the Department of Classics at the University of Toronto St. George campus. The program combines the study of Ancient Greek and Latin language, literature, and civilization, requiring students to read primary texts in the original languages. Completion requires 7.0 credits in total: an introductory Classical Civilization course (CLA160H1 or CLA170H1) and CLA260H1, plus 6.0 credits of Greek and Latin language coursework, including at least 2.0 credits in each of Greek (GRK) and Latin (LAT) and at least 1.0 credit at the 400-level in either language. No separate Minor is offered under this combined designation; students seeking a lighter course load can instead pursue a standalone Greek Minor or Latin Minor. The Major is open enrolment, available to any student who has completed 4.0 credits, with no additional grade requirement to enrol.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) with six subjects at the 4U/M level, including English (ENG4U/EAE4U); the co-op component of Grade 12 courses is not used for admission.
