Overview
This specialization within the Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Educational Studies focuses on recognizing and challenging systemic, historic and attitudinal barriers that contribute to discrimination and oppression in classroom and workplace learning settings. Students complete four specialization courses selected from options covering inclusive learning environments, unlearning and the inclusive curriculum, advancing equity through the creative process, models of inclusion, enabling learning through technology, social justice issues in education, and supporting multilanguage learners, alongside the core Educational Studies curriculum in foundations of learning, digital tools for education and assessment. The four-year Honours Bachelor of Arts is delivered as a hybrid program combining online and in-person courses, based at the Downtown Oshawa campus with a September start, and is available with a co-op option. Graduates are prepared for careers in teaching, instructional design, multimedia and e-learning, and EDI consulting.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Current Ontario secondary school applicants must complete the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) with six 4U or 4M credits, including English (ENG4U). Admission is competitive and the required average varies from year to year, based on school marks, distribution of subjects and performance in subjects relevant to the program; meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee acceptance. Applicants apply through the Ontario Universities' Application Centre (OUAC) using application code DEJ, and those also interested in becoming a teacher should select the Concurrent Education option. Separate routes apply for out-of-province, international, mature, transfer, General Arts and Science and home-schooled applicants.
