Earth Science at the University of Toronto Mississauga is concerned with the origin, evolution and structure of the Earth, and other planets, through the analysis of physical, chemical and biological processes. The discipline covers plate tectonics and the continual movement, growth and consumption of the Earth's crust, drawing on modern satellite and global datasets alongside field observation, which remains central to the training. Students study natural resource systems as well as the environmental problems that geoscientists increasingly help address. The program is offered at the Mississauga campus as Major, Minor and Specialist options within the Honours Bachelor of Science; the Major requires 8.0-8.5 credits including at least 3.0 credits at the 300/400 level, built on a first-year foundation of introductory Earth Science plus mathematics and a laboratory science. It contributes to a four-year Honours Bachelor of Science degree.
