Geological Sciences at Queen's University is offered through the Department of Geological Sciences and Geological Engineering, which combines programs in Geological Sciences and Geological Engineering within a single unit. The program covers the Earth's natural systems, including water, climate, minerals, rocks, soil, and energy resources, along with subdisciplines such as geophysics, geochemistry, environmental geoscience, structural geology, geochronology, sedimentology, and paleontology. Students choose one of several 4-year Honours plans, including a Specialization (BSc Honours, GEOL-P-BSH) designed to lead toward registration as a Professional Geoscientist, a Major (BSc Honours, GEOL-M-BSH) allowing a wider choice of elective courses, and an Environmental Geology Specialization administered jointly with the School of Environmental Studies; General and Minor options are also available. Field experience is a significant component, with most students gaining over 200 hours through field trips.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Students entering Geological Sciences in second year must complete GEOL 104 (Dynamic Earth) in first year; first-year Chemistry, Math, and Physics are also recommended.
