Film Studies is an Honours Bachelor of Arts program offered at the University of Toronto Scarborough, available as a Major or Minor. The program examines cinema and related media as a visual art form, covering its history, global context, and the work of individual filmmakers, movements, genres, and eras. Introductory coursework includes How to Read a Film, a critical study of cinema drawing on films from a broad range of genres, countries, and eras, alongside courses such as Literature and Film for our Time: Visions and Revisions. The program falls under the Social Sciences & Humanities admission category and does not offer a co-op option. Graduates have gone on to work in the film industry, film criticism, journalism, public relations, and social media management, as well as pursuing further study in film production, law, and publishing. A University of Toronto Scarborough alumnus from this program area won an Academy Award in 2024 as associate producer of the documentary The Last Repair Shop.

Admission Requirements: Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent, with a minimum of 70% in Grade 12 English.
