Pharmaceutical Chemistry is a Specialist program jointly offered by the Department of Chemistry and the Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Toronto, leading to an Honours Bachelor of Science from the Faculty of Arts & Science. The curriculum examines the scientific aspects of drug therapy, with particular emphasis on the chemical nature of the reactions and interactions involved, building a foundation in physical, organic, and analytical chemistry alongside the synthesis, manufacture, use, and mode of action of drugs. An optional 12- to 16-month internship is available to qualified students, with placements in pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, university research laboratories, university-affiliated organizations, and government research agencies. Admission requires prerequisite courses in English, Biology, Calculus and Vectors, Chemistry, and Physics. The program prepares graduates for further study or careers in pharmaceutical science, drug development, and chemistry-related research.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Applicants require an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) with six 4U/M-level subjects, including English, and must present English (ENG4U or EAE4U), Biology (SBI4U), Calculus and Vectors (MCV4U), Chemistry (SCH4U), and Physics (SPH4U). The co-op component of Grade 12 courses is not counted toward admission.
