Pharmacology is a Specialist program at the University of Toronto's Faculty of Arts & Science leading to an Honours Bachelor of Science. The curriculum builds on the foundational life sciences to examine the therapeutic properties and clinical uses of externally administered chemical substances, along with their mechanisms of action and interactions with molecular, cellular, and tissue targets. Students learn through lectures, tutorials, laboratories, and independent research, including a senior research project completed under faculty supervision in either a laboratory or non-laboratory setting. A Professional Experience Year Co-op option offers a 12- to 16-month paid placement in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or chemical companies, university or government research laboratories, or consulting organizations, positioned between the third and fourth years of study. The program prepares graduates for research and non-research careers in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries, government agencies, research institutes, and universities.
