Overview
Delivered fully online over roughly two years, the Master of Public Health pairs graduate coursework with a mandatory 450-hour practicum that must be completed in Canada, finishing with either a culminating report or a thesis. Students choose a concentration in either social policy or Indigenous health studies, and the program is built around community-centred practice aimed at addressing inequities in population health. Entry requires a prior undergraduate statistics course, and a criminal record check is required once admitted. The required statistics course must be at the second-year level or above, focused on data analysis rather than research methods, completed with a grade of B or higher within the past ten years. Applications for September entry are due January 31, supported by two assessment reports from academic or professional references.

Beyond that, the Faculty of Graduate Studies' general master's requirements apply: completion of a four-year bachelor's degree, or equivalent, and the equivalent of a minimum ‘B’ average over the last two years of that degree. English proficiency follows UVic's institution-wide scale: IELTS Academic overall 6.5 with no band under 6.0, or TOEFL iBT overall 4.5 with no section under 4.0 for tests taken after 21 January 2026 (90 overall/20 per section on tests taken before that date); PTE Academic, CAEL, Cambridge C1 Advanced/C2 Proficiency and the Michigan English Test are also accepted, individual departments may set higher minimums, and scores cannot be more than two years old.
