Program details

Overview

This online micro-certificate builds a foundation in marketing before moving into how that foundation applies specifically to digital channels. Core theories, concepts and principles of marketing are introduced first, then used as the basis for practising the kind of management decisions marketers face across different industries. The programme covers web-based business models and social media technologies, along with current digital marketing trends and how an organisation might decide where to concentrate its digital efforts. Building on this, participants work on integrated marketing communication planning, combining channels and messages into a coherent strategy for an organisation. Practical components include drafting key messages, selecting appropriate communication tools, and defining audience segments so that a campaign can be aimed accurately. The overall aim is a working ability to plan and communicate marketing strategy rather than only theoretical knowledge of it.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: No specific prerequisites are required beyond the Division of Continuing Studies' general enrolment requirements.

Application Details

Application Deadline: Domestic applicants apply through EducationPlannerBC, which opens for 2027-entry applications on 1 October 2026: most degree programmes see September 2027 entry close 31 January 2027, January 2027 entry close 30 September 2026, and Summer 2027 entry close 31 March 2027, though Teacher Education post-degree programmes close 2 January 2027, Indigenous Education post-degree admits on an ongoing basis, and Engineering's Summer entry (high-school graduates only) closes 31 December 2026. International applicants use the same portal and face identical dates, since UVic publishes no separate international deadline. UVic treats these as fixed annual dates rather than rolling admission, though it warns any programme can close early without notice. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
