Biomedical Sciences at the University of Waterloo leads to a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Sciences, at the undergraduate level, offered only as a regular (non-co-op) program. The curriculum studies human and animal systems and their functions in relation to health, disease, and the healing process, covering viruses, bacteria, and microbes, genetic and environmental influences on health, and the diagnostic tools used to investigate physiological problems. The program is deliberately offered without a co-op option, to reduce the overall time students spend completing their undergraduate degree. Students gain a broad science education along with hands-on laboratory skills, communication skills, and training in laboratory safety. Graduates are prepared for biomedical laboratory research, further health professional education, teaching, or work in industry.
