Overview
The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Management Science and Engineering at the University of Waterloo is a research-based doctoral program with three specializations: applied operations research, information systems, and management of technology. Students complete coursework and original research culminating in a doctoral thesis. Applicants must hold a master's degree with at least an 83% average, evidence of ability to pursue independent research, and a quantitative background covering calculus, linear algebra, and probability and statistics. Applicants submit a one-page statement of purpose addressing their academic background, area of research interest, and proposed research studies. The program is delivered on campus and takes 48 months to complete on a full-time basis, with admission in the fall term.
