Overview
The Master of Arts in Planning at the University of Waterloo is offered by the School of Planning and is accredited by the Professional Standards Board for the Planning Profession in Canada. The program combines practice-oriented training with conceptually rigorous coursework across two research themes: the human and built environment, and the physical and natural environment. Topics of study include affordable housing, climate change, environmental conservation and policy, active transportation, urban economies, participatory planning processes, and equity and inclusion. Students complete either a thesis or a master's research paper. Full-time study is delivered on campus and is designed to be completed over 24 months. Admission requires a four-year Honours bachelor's degree, or equivalent, typically in planning or a related field, with a minimum overall average of 78%. Applicants must identify one or more School of Planning faculty members who would be a suitable advisor. The program admits new students in the Fall term.
