Overview
The Master of Applied Science (MASc) in Management Science and Engineering at the University of Waterloo is a research-based graduate program in the Faculty of Engineering. It combines coursework with thesis research across three areas of specialization: applied operations research, information systems, and management of technology. Students develop skills in analytics, optimization, information systems, and behavioural science as applied to engineering and business problems, working under faculty supervision to complete an original research thesis. The program runs full-time over 24 months, admitting students for the Fall term, and is delivered on the University of Waterloo campus. Students may apply to transfer into a co-op option after completing at least one academic term, gaining industry work experience alongside their studies. Graduates are prepared for research, analytical, and technical leadership roles in industry, government, and further doctoral study, applying quantitative and systems-based methods to complex management and engineering problems.

Admission Requirements: Applicants need a relevant four-year honours bachelor's degree with at least 75% overall standing in the last two years, or equivalent, and a background in quantitative methods such as calculus, linear algebra, and probability and statistics. A Statement of Purpose is required. Where required, English language proficiency is demonstrated with a TOEFL score of 4.5 (writing 5, speaking 5) or an IELTS score of 7.0 (writing 6.5, speaking 6.5).
