Program details

Overview

This programme delivers Adult Basic Education courses spanning grade 10 (intermediate), grade 11 (advanced) and grade 12 (provincial) levels for youth aged 15 to 24, within a supportive, flexible and self-paced learning environment. Study options include a classroom setting, online delivery, or a mix of the two, with individualised instruction geared to each learner's pace. Assignments and assessments follow a flexible schedule set together with instructors.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Vancouver Community College's own page for this programme now redirects to its youth-specific Academic Upgrading Grades 10-12 page, and its general admission requirements apply here: applicants must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents between the ages of 16 and 24, able to demonstrate English Language Proficiency, and either 16 or older or a secondary-school graduate. Course-level prerequisites, where they exist, are set out in the individual course outlines rather than at the programme level. The page states no IELTS, TOEFL or other standardized test score and no minimum grade point average. A complete application requires the application form, official transcripts, any other required supporting documents, and the fee or deposit; self-identified Indigenous applicants are encouraged to connect with VCC's Indigenous Education team for admission support.

Application Details

Start Date: Self-paced entry across all three terms. VCC's academic year runs in three terms: Winter (January to April), Spring/Summer (May to August) and Fall (September to December).
Application Deadline: Domestic applicants (Canadian citizens and permanent residents) apply through EducationPlannerBC. VCC publishes this programme's windows term by term on its When to Apply page: Winter 2027 term — open 1 July 2026, close 1 April 2027; Spring/Summer 2027 term — open 1 November 2026, close 1 August 2027; Fall 2026 term — open 15 March 2026, close 1 December 2026. Seats go to eligible applicants in the order their applications are completed, so the programme can close before the listed end date once it fills. VCC flags this programme as one that still accepts late applications after the close date. VCC's page for this programme states it is open to Canadian citizens and permanent residents, and points international students to VCC International, which lists separately the programmes and intakes open to them; there the application periods open on 1 February, 1 June and 1 October of the previous year for the Winter, Spring/Summer and Fall terms, with no fixed closing date — a programme accepts applications until roughly three to four months before classes begin, or until its seats are gone.
