Foundation in Adult Basic Education Program

Admission Requirements: This program is open to domestic applicants only. Rather than fixed entry grades, admission follows an assessment-based process: applicants submit an application to the Adult Basic Education program, submit any transcripts they hold, and meet with an educational advisor to discuss upgrading goals, at which point a skills assessment is booked if needed; students with a documented disability are directed to the Department of Accessible Learning Services for assistance with that assessment. Students who want the Indigenous Language courses only are exempt from the transcript-and-assessment step. No English-language test score is required, consistent with a domestic-only upgrading program. Placement follows into one of four levels (Fundamental, Intermediate, Advanced, or Provincial) based on the assessment, covering English, Math, sciences, and Indigenous-language options. Admission otherwise follows North Island College's general domestic requirement of secondary-school graduation or being 18 during the year of study, and eligible residency/citizenship status.
