Bachelor of Arts Degree (BA) is a bachelor's degree in Arts, Design & Architecture programme taught at Vancouver Island University in Nanaimo, Canada. The programme runs for 4 years, delivered on campus. Teaching is in English. Tuition for international students is CAD 832 per credit (CAD 170 per credit for local students).
The degree spans several streams. In Arts and Humanities, students work on breaking down complex ideas, constructing arguments and expressing themselves clearly, alongside hands-on projects. In Social Sciences, the focus shifts to human behaviour, societies and the forces that shape them, using research, data analysis and real-world projects. Other areas of study explore the natural world, building problem-solving skills and applying current techniques to practical challenges, combining theory with practical work across media and the sciences.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: The Bachelor of Arts page defers entirely to VIU's general admission requirements for academic programs rather than listing its own prerequisite courses, though it notes that individual courses within a chosen major may carry their own high-school prerequisites. VIU's general route admits an applicant who graduated a BC secondary school (or accepted equivalent) with at least a "C" in English Studies 12 or English First Peoples 12, holds a prior degree, enters with a Letter of Permission, transfers in with 24-plus university-level credits, or qualifies under the academic mature-student category at 21 or older; the BA page itself states "Testing Required: No" and publishes no IELTS, TOEFL, PTE, Duolingo or CAEL score. No minimum admission GPA is stated for the general BA. The page flags that the Major in Criminology and the Major in Visual Arts carry additional requirements beyond the general BA admission standard, without detailing them on this page.
