Overview
The Criminology Diploma introduces you to criminal law, the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, and case-law decisions made by the courts. You'll examine the three main components of the criminal justice system—police, courts, and corrections. You'll explore the trends and correlates of crime, including the influences of age, ethnicity, gender, and social class and how. The criminological focus is broadened with courses from other disciplines within the Social Sciences and Humanities.

Admission Requirements: The Criminology Diploma page states that VIU's general admission requirements apply, on top of its own two course prerequisites: English 12 with a minimum "C" or equivalent, and one of Principles of Mathematics 11, Applications of Mathematics 11, or Foundations of Mathematics 11, also at a minimum "C" or equivalent. VIU's general domestic route referenced admits an applicant who graduated a BC secondary school (or accepted equivalent) with at least a "C" in English Studies 12 or English First Peoples 12, holds a prior degree, enters as a visiting student with a Letter of Permission, transfers in with 24-plus university-level credits, or meets the academic mature-student category at 21 or older; VIU does not publish a central English-test-score table for this domestic route. Enrolment in the Criminology Diploma is limited and ranked by applicants' English 12 and Math 11 grades, and reserved seats are available to Indigenous applicants through VIU's Access Initiative for Indigenous Students.
