Educational Leadership: Master of Education (MEd)

Admission Requirements: Requirements: a bachelor's degree — preferably a Bachelor of Education or equivalent — from a recognised university and acceptable in content to VIU's Faculty of Education, carrying either a cumulative "B" grade point average across its final two years or a demonstration of academic excellence. The Admissions Committee must also receive and be satisfied with a resume outlining your teaching experience (two years is preferred), a letter of intent explaining why you want to pursue graduate work in this area, and two current confidential assessment reports. VIU is explicit that ordinary reference letters cannot be substituted for the confidential assessment reports. English: if your degree comes from a country where English is not the primary or official language, and from a university that did not teach in English, you must satisfy one of the English standards VIU sets for its graduate programmes. Laddering route: graduates of VIU's Literacy, Language and Learning Graduate Diploma qualify provided one of their electives was LLL 513 (Leadership in Literacy and Language). Flexible admission: in exceptional cases VIU will admit an applicant with lower formal qualifications where they hold significant relevant professional experience. That route asks for a letter of intent, a detailed resume evidencing applicable learning, two current confidential assessment reports, two or more letters of reference, and official transcripts of all post-secondary coursework; in limited cases further material such as a portfolio may be requested.
