Overview
Criminal Justice is an undergraduate major offered by the Department of Sociology in Western University's Faculty of Social Science. The module examines the criminal justice system through a sociological lens, covering crime, law, courts, corrections and related social institutions. Students enter after completing first-year requirements, including one 1000-level Sociology course completed with a mark of at least 60%. The major comprises 6.0 courses in total, combining required Sociology courses with electives drawn from criminal-justice-related and interdisciplinary offerings, and cannot be combined with the Major in Criminology. Until May 1, 2024, the module was offered through Brescia University College before transitioning to direct administration by Western. The program suits students interested in the social structures, institutions and processes that shape criminal justice, alongside broader study within the Faculty of Social Science.
