Overview
The MA in Comparative Literature at Western University draws on recognized departmental strengths across literatures including American, Canadian, Classical, English, French and Francophone, German, Hindi, Italian, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian and Spanish. Compared with similar programs elsewhere in Canada, it places particular emphasis on critical theory, postcolonial literature, East-West cultural relationships and inter-media studies, especially visual art and film, drawing on faculty with expertise in Medieval, Renaissance, Baroque and eighteenth-to-twentieth-century cultures. The program is completed over three terms of full-time, project-based study, and MA students are typically employed as teaching assistants. It suits students who want to study literature comparatively across languages and traditions with a strong grounding in critical theory.
