Program details
Overview
History (MA) at Western University is a graduate program in the Department of History that emphasizes the deep study of history alongside the development of research, writing, and analytical skills. Students pursue work across the histories of Canada, the United States, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia, as well as international and global history, working closely with faculty in their chosen field. A Public History field is also offered, combining traditional historical training with experiential learning to prepare graduates for careers as public historians in museums, archives, government agencies, consulting firms, and heritage management. The program can be completed through a course-based or major-research-paper route, a project-based route for the Public History field, or a thesis-based route, giving students flexibility in how they demonstrate their research and writing abilities. Graduates are prepared for further doctoral study in history or for professional work applying historical research and analytical skills in academic, cultural, and public-sector settings.
