The Master of Science in Statistics at Western University covers three fields: statistical theory, actuarial science, and financial modelling. Students in the statistical theory field study probability, inference, statistical computing, and data analysis; students in actuarial science study survival analysis, risk, and the relationship between mortality and finance; and students in financial modelling study deterministic and stochastic models used in the banking industry. The program is full-time and can be completed through a project-based route over three terms or a thesis-based route over six terms. Admission requires an undergraduate degree from a recognized institution with a sufficient background in statistics, actuarial science, or financial modelling. Applicants whose first language is not English must meet Western's English proficiency requirement. Graduates are prepared for doctoral study or for analytical, actuarial, or financial-modelling roles in industry and government.
