Overview
Philosophy at Wilfrid Laurier University examines how historical, social, political and cultural forces shape human thinking, covering questions of knowledge, reality, values and society. The program combines traditional areas of philosophy, such as logic, ethics and metaphysics, with non-traditional topics including feminism, gender theory, non-Western philosophies and environmental ethics. Students develop skills in critical analysis, argument construction and written communication through close engagement with philosophical texts and debates spanning multiple traditions and historical periods. The four-year Honours program is delivered on campus at Laurier's Waterloo campus, with intakes each September and January, and some students able to accelerate completion to three years. A co-op option is also available for students admitted directly into the co-operative education stream. Graduates are prepared for further study in philosophy, law or related graduate programs, as well as careers requiring strong analytical, ethical-reasoning and communication skills across the public, private and non-profit sectors.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Ontario secondary school applicants need an average in the mid-70s, including English at a minimum of 60%, for direct entry, or an average in the low-80s with the same English requirement for direct entry into the co-op stream.
