Archaeology and Heritage Studies is a four-year Bachelor of Arts at Wilfrid Laurier University providing training in excavation techniques, advanced laboratory analysis and heritage conservation, with students working alongside Indigenous, descendant and local communities to preserve cultural heritage. The programme covers both New World and Ancient Mediterranean archaeology using contemporary field and analytical methods taught by faculty who are active researchers. Three rotating field schools, held every two years in locations including Toronto, Jordan and Greece, provide hands-on archaeological experience, and students can apply for a three-month internship with the Canadian Institute in Greece in Athens. A Cardiff University pathway lets students graduate with a BA from Laurier and a Master of Science or Master of Arts from Cardiff. Available minors include Management, Geomatics, Geography, History, Medieval Studies, Climate Change Management and Anthropology. Graduates are prepared for careers in cultural resource management, museum curation and heritage agency research, including roles such as field archaeologist, artifact analyst, collections curator and GIS specialist. The programme is delivered on campus with September and January intakes.
