This PhD in Educational Studies at Wilfrid Laurier University is delivered as an in-person hybrid program combining scheduled in-person and virtual learning, with a September intake and full-time funding available for up to four years. The pre-candidacy stage comprises six half-credit courses: two foundational courses, three advanced seminars, and one elective, followed by a comprehensive portfolio and dissertation proposal with written and oral components. Once candidacy is achieved, students undertake independent research culminating in a dissertation and a public oral defense, with both in-person and virtual supervision available. A self-funded, part-time flex-time option is available after candidacy, extending completion by up to two years. Faculty research spans early childhood through postsecondary and lifelong education, mathematics education, Indigenous education and decolonization, higher education and student affairs, digital learning and technology, literacy and multiliteracies, and educational leadership and policy. Graduates pursue roles as academic leaders, researchers, and faculty members, as well as professional roles in student affairs, curriculum development, or educational leadership across K-12, postsecondary, and adult education settings.
