The PhD in Geography at Wilfrid Laurier University supports in-depth research across human geography, physical geography, geomatics, and environmental studies. Students develop an original dissertation through independent research projects, working alongside faculty and, in many cases, through graduate assistantships that provide research and teaching experience. Admission requires a master's degree in geography or a related field, with a minimum A- standing. Applicants whose prior postsecondary instruction was not in English must submit evidence of English proficiency through an accepted testing service. The program admits students in the Fall, Winter, or Spring terms, giving applicants flexibility in when they begin their studies. Graduates are prepared for research and academic careers, as well as roles applying advanced geographic and geomatics expertise outside academia.
