Overview

The Graduate Diploma in Education in Urban Environments is offered by the Faculty of Education at York University and provides graduate-level study of theory and research in urban education. It is designed to give current and prospective teachers enriched experience and critical analytic skills for working in diverse, cosmopolitan urban settings, exploring issues of class, race, citizenship, sexual orientation, religion, and language as they relate to schooling and educational policy. The diploma is offered either concurrently with a Master of Education (MEd) or Doctoral degree, or as a stand-alone, part-time direct-entry credential, with course requirements ranging from 12 to 27 credits depending on the option chosen. As with York's other graduate diplomas in Education, it does not certify students in a particular field.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Candidates must be admissible to the Graduate Program in Education. The direct-entry, stand-alone diploma has the same application requirements as the part-time Master of Education (MEd) program; the concurrent option requires acceptance as an MEd or Doctoral graduate student in the Faculty of Education.
