Overview
The Master of Education in Language, Culture & Teaching at York University is grounded in critical thought with a commitment to equity and social justice. The two-year, full-time program (up to four years part-time) covers anti-racist, multicultural, and feminist pedagogies; language and literacy; new information technologies; urban education and community studies; disability studies and education; global and international education; and post-secondary education. Students benefit from flexible scheduling, individualized study with faculty mentorship, small class sizes, and teaching or research assistantship opportunities. Admission is for the fall term. Applicants need an acceptable undergraduate degree, three letters of reference, a resume or CV, a statement of interest of at least 500 words, and a sample of written work. York also offers a PhD in the same field, along with a Master of Leadership and Community Engagement (MLCE) on alternate years and six related graduate diploma options.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Applicants need an acceptable undergraduate degree with a minimum B+ average, three letters of reference, a resume or CV, a statement of interest of at least 500 words, and a sample of written work. Applicants whose first language is not English must submit an English proficiency score: TOEFL iBT 100 (or 5 on the new scale from January 2026), IELTS Academic 7.5, Duolingo English Test 140, PTE Academic 76, or CAEL 70 overall with no component below 60. Admission is for the fall term.
