Artificial Intelligence for Sustainable Societies is a 2-year master's programme taught in English in cyclical form. It combines artificial intelligence, sustainability and social innovation, and asks how data-driven and intelligent systems can serve societies in a responsible way. Studies balance theory and practice in international, interdisciplinary cohorts.
Students work where computer science meets the environmental and social sciences, relying on participatory design approaches that bring citizens, communities and other interested parties into the development of AI and data-based solutions. Courses stress applied projects, exercises and case studies.
The programme is run with three partner universities in three countries. Students enrol in Tallinn, where foundation courses cover sustainable societies, AI, data and design, then continue in Porto with electives and further foundation courses, and finish in Tampere with a cross-disciplinary course built around projects for actual clients. Graduates may take roles in digital change within government, urban technology, community-focused tools, non-profits, young companies or research teams, or move on to doctoral studies.
