This professional master's programme in psychology is taught in Latvian at the University of Latvia in Riga. It is a full-time course of four semesters and 120 ECTS credits, and graduates receive a professional master's degree in psychology together with a specialisation as a psychologist in one practice area.
Students develop practical skills and a deeper theoretical understanding of the science of psychology. The practice areas are clinical and health psychology, educational and school psychology, work and organisational psychology, and legal psychology. The curriculum builds competence in psychological assessment, counselling and psychotherapy methods, and professional ethics, and it encourages the critical comparison of psychological theories and the design of independent research.
Admission requires a first-cycle higher education qualification in psychology and is decided by a competition score. Both state-funded budget places and fee-paying places are offered, and tuition is charged for each academic year.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Applicants need a first-cycle higher education qualification in psychology. Admission is competitive: the score combines the weighted average grade (60 x 10 = 600) and the total or average result of the final examinations (40 x 10 = 400). The weighted average grade and the final examination result must each be at least 6. Graduates of the university's own bachelor's programme in psychology from the 2025/2026 academic year may register outside the competition if their bachelor's thesis grade is at least 10 and their weighted average grade is at least 9.
