Data Science

This two-year, post-master's professional doctorate trains participants to work as data scientists finding patterns and creating value from large data streams within a given domain. Its themes include collecting, exploring, analysing, interpreting and presenting large data sets; approaching data and domain problems from several angles; and designing new data-driven solutions that create value for organisations. The curriculum draws on statistics, computer science, mathematics and design theory alongside business skills, with attention to the ethical and legal aspects of working with data. As a professional doctorate, the track is an industry-oriented alternative to a PhD: rather than training independent researchers, it prepares participants for careers as technological designers, and during the programme a participant holds employee status at the university with a salary and benefits package.
