With teaching drawn from cultural history, art history, architectural history, archaeology and sociology, this interdisciplinary dual master's programme in Heritage and Memory Studies examines heritage and memory using a critical lens that is cultural-historic and spatial in character. The programme researches the meanings attached to heritage within museological and educational contexts, such as visual media, theme parks, tourism and listed buildings, as well as its political use, examining cases such as the way the Second World War, or the colonial past, is remembered and preserved as heritage and the frictions that arise from historical layering, the search for genuineness within a digital era, the preservation of museum objects, and how heritage objects are managed by public and private bodies, and the tourist experience. Students can shape the two-year programme around their own interests, and it combines practical experience, specialist knowledge and theoretical reflection with an internship as a central component.
