This two-year dual master's is the only Dutch university programme centred on the multidisciplinary field of museology, and includes a six-month placement at a museum. It emphasises the public-facing side of museums, the point where visitors enter and collections tell their stories, preparing graduates for roles across the museum profession and giving first-hand exposure to the sector through an intensive internship at a museum in the Netherlands or abroad. Because the stories museums choose to tell through their collections keep shifting, the programme investigates the dynamics and purpose of heritage museums — those built around antiquities, archaeology, ethnology, history, and art — grounded throughout in cultural history and an international outlook. Graduates go on to roles such as organising exhibitions, devising educational projects, managing museums, shaping policy, carrying out research, or writing reviews, all resting on a foundation of knowledge, creative thinking, and a critical outlook.
