Theology and Religious Studies: Religious Studies (research MA)

This two-year research master's develops the skills needed to carry out an independent research project in religious studies, exploring key issues, theoretical perspectives and methodological questions while engaging in ongoing research alongside faculty members. Its focus falls on the history of religious and spiritual diversity and its continuing presence across Europe and the wider Mediterranean, Eurasian and Transatlantic world, emphasising processes of religious diversification across different socio-cultural settings. Training spans both the historical and the empirical study of religious cultures, their countercultures and their spiritualities, taking in the interdisciplinary study of narratives, ideas, institutions and practices and how they interact. Students choose a specialisation in Spirituality and Religion in Islam, Spirituality and Esotericism in Western Culture, or Religion and Spirituality in Contemporary Societies.
