Program details

Overview

The course addresses international crimes and serious human rights violations as threats to peace and security, and examines why an effective response is often hindered by limited understanding of their underlying causes. Teaching takes an interdisciplinary approach, combining legal and empirical analysis of mass atrocities with theory, interactive discussion and visits to international criminal tribunals based in The Hague, among them the ICC, the Kosovo Specialist Chambers and the tribunal for Lebanon. Sessions led by lawyers and criminologists explore what pursuing justice means in practice and work through some of the most pressing challenges in the field, building a grounding in the central issues of international criminal justice.
